Writing is a learn by doing process.
When an author was invited to address students in a writing class at an east coast university, she walked in and asked the students, "How many of you want to be writers?" All the students in the room raised their hands. "Very well," she said, "Go home and write." With that, she walked out of the room. To write better, write more. Just set a goal for yourself and meet it. Write in a journal. Write letters. Write for a set time or a set number of pages or words every day or every other day — whatever. Your growth begins when you overcome initial inertia and just start writing. — From Writing with Oomph and workshops by John Gile.
