Mark Twain said, "If we taught people to talk the way we teach them to write, everyone would stutter." Fear of making mistakes or breaking writing rules can paralyze writers and would-be writers. Your goal is clear, cogent, concise, compelling communication. "Correct" is important, too, but rules and usage are subject to change because our language is dynamic.
Read and master The Elements of Style by Strunk and White — about 70 pages — and you'll know all the writing rules you need to know. — From Writing with Oomph and workshops by John Gile.
