To write is to keep focused.
I encourage my writing workshop participants to use their journals for answering three questions lllinois author Carl Sandburg said each of us should ask ourselves from time to time: 1. Who am I?
2. Where have I been? 3. Where am I going? I always add another question: 4. Why? Answering those questions keeps us in touch with ourselves — and we cannot be in touch with others if we are not in touch with ourselves. They also keep our goals in view. If we don't set and write our own goals, someone else is sure to come along and impose their goals upon us. — From Writing with Oomph and workshops by John Gile.
