Writing is growing. It might help to remember that the word "author" comes to us from a Latin word "auctor" — which comes from another Latin word "augere" which means "to grow." To be writing is to be growing. Keeping in mind that your goal is growth can free you from the paralysis of perfectionism. The First Forest can help us remember that, too. In The First Forest, the heroes are the evergreens. The word "green" comes to us from a Teutonic word "grah" — which means "to grow." The heroes are "ever growing." — From Writing with Oomph and workshops by John Gile. |
